Internship Post for Executive Assistant Maseru(LESOTHO)

Mother Other is a hub that facilitates the healing of the African creative’s proverbial voice through programs and spaces that nurture and showcase the plethora of African narratives as told by Africans. Of particular interest to the organization is people of colour (POCs) and empowering their exploration of personal and collective identity.

Mother other co-founder, mentee and professional musician, Leomile, is looking for an executive assistant based in Maseru, Lesotho to assist in the managing of daily administration as well as creative involvement in research and planning of various events and development of new programs.

This internship is meant to bridge the gap between theory and practice by exposing the intern to the daily routines and realities of the professional music scene. From the intercepting of research to commerce to marketing and of course creating music, the intern will gain a full understanding of how all these aspects form the machine that moves the artist. This is for the aspiring “behind the scenes” music professional.

• Speak and write fluent Sesotho and English

• Completed and passed grade 12

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel & Powerpoint

• Organised and disciplined

• Excellent people skills

• Pulse on the African music scene and voracious consumer of music

• Interested in learning the music business

• Familiar with Leomile’s music and interested in its advancement

• Maintains client confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential

• Attends certain meetings with the executive learning the skills to represent executive in event of her absence

• Conserves executive’s time by reading, researching, drafting letters and documents; collecting and analyzing information; initiating telecommunications.

• Researches and develops creative strategy for effective audience interactions with the music

• Handles bookings and client correspondence

• Liaison with the technical and travel & hospitality mainstay during planning of shows and tours

• Handles routine social media activities

• Attends shows and rehearsals to gain firsthand experience of the goings-on

The post is a 3 month long commitment with the possibility of it becoming a permanent job after internship completion. It covers all costs incurred by intern and offers a monthly stipend. It is not a full-time 9-5 position but rather a call on demand post which will depend on the eventfulness of the season and schedule. While the requirements might be intimidating, if you are eager to learn, there will be much supervision and no need for you to know everything from the get-go.
